Biographical/Historical note Martin Gold, a member of the Jewish Community Relations Council and numberless other Jewish and civic organizations, devoted most of his life to the causes of religious freedom and human rights. Gold was an active local participant in the Anti-Defamation League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Jewish Community Relations Council and many other groups. His interests included Jewish – Black relations, the monitoring of hate groups, separation of church and state, and the security of the state of Israel. Martin Gold died in 1997.
Scope and Contents
Scope and Contents note The Martin Gold Collection opens a window on the aspirations and apprehensions of Connecticut Jews during the last few decades of the twentieth century. Of particular note are the records regarding anti-Semitic groups, the Nation of Islam, and the treatment of religion in the public schools. Most of the material in the collection is from the 1980s and 1990s.
